As mentioned in our home page, we are committed to our Island community and the non-profits that are stewards to our environment, human health, education, and overall support of those in need. We will donate 5% of our gross revenue, not net revenue, to a local MDI non-profit of your choice (listed here). Please visit each linked web site to see how they are serving our community at large before you choose. I have been employed at the MDI Biological Lab for the past 11 years as their Physical Plant Director; I have firsthand knowledge of the good works these organizations provide. My wife, Marydeane, and I also own Hanscom’s Motel and Cottages and support these institution as best we can. Our associate partner, Timothy Billings, is a research assistant at the Jackson Lab. Acadia Lobster Bakes is a part-time business for us, for now, but growing. Although our donations to our community might seem modest we hope that they will grow to a point where they can make a real difference. During the past year we donated proceeds only to non-profit organizations that used our services; this year we are opening it up to all Acadia Lobster Bakes customers. In 2009 we donated over $2500 to those non-profit organizations that hired us. Had the new policy been in effect then, the total would have been much higher. We will keep this new policy in the future, hoping at some point to increase the %’s to help our non-profits. Even if you do not hire us for your next catered event, please consider donating to a deserving non-profit organization on Mount Desert Island and beyond! |
